Moy
We drove down to the south of the island, past Craignure, where our ferry from the mainland docked, and Duart Castle to Lochbuie, along some of the worst single-track roads we've so far encountered, which is says something for this island. We walked by the ruins of Moy Castle, an impressive scaffold-swaddled tower, and out along Laggan Sands - a picturesque, windswept swathe despite the muddy sand and the significant amount of debris that was scattered about. Lochbuie is wide and open-ended - more like a deep bay than a lake - and surrounded on three sides by high mountains. We didn't find the Maclean family mausoleum and I couldn't find the stone circle on the road out of Lochbuie either, despite finding a single tall monolith and hopping around in a boggy field comically for a little while (the girls having given up and stayed in the car that time.) On the way home we stopped off at the Isle of Mull Cheese Farm, bought some cheese and local sausages for tea and had a nice cup of tea and a very good slice of cheesecake in their pleasant tea room/shop. Music: Simon and Garfunkel.
