Buppa!
Today was the most surrealist day of my life!!!
A few days ago we made friends with a Cypriot family. Aphrodite is 7, she lives in Nicosia with her Mum, Alayna, her Dad, Helios, and "the girl" who is the Filipino helper. They all move to Polis for the school holidays and stay with Alayna's parents, we call them Granny and Buppa. Buppa is pictured!!
After a few drinks the other day we agreed to take Aphrodite to the Beach (yesterday) and they invited us for a BBQ one Sunday. We didn't realise everything they say is literal, so when you say "see you later" they expect to see you later that day!!!
Anyway, I had a call this morning at 11 from Alayna telling us Helios would be waiting for us to meet us and lead the way to Granny and Buppa's house (Granny and Buppa own the local tat shop and the green grocers/newsagent!) so off we went!
Colin was very anxious, he thought they were going to kidnap us (although he also thought Alayna was being over friendly the other night when she asked "do you like er- sex?" To which Colin replied he did but he thought it wasn't a subject they should be talking about whilst I was in the toilet, so I returned and she asked me the same question, "do you like er- sex?" She must have noticed that I looked confused and elaborated with "er-sex?? I went to college in Chelmsford, er-sex" oh how we giggled!!)
A lovely day spent in their mansion in the mountains, I have never been into such a grand house, it was flipping HUGE looking out onto the vast amount of their land. The rooms went on and on.
Buppa, along with "the girl" made the finest lunch of feta salad, tomato and onion salads, tatziki, warm pitas, bbq'd chillis and bbq'd goat! I'd not eaten goat before but I'll try anything twice!
As we ate Buppa told us great stories of days gone by and how he grew all the veggies we were eating (he has 500 sprinkler systems around his land to keep everything watered) the tomatoes and onions were the sweetest, the chillies were amazing.... Which lead to my question
"did you rear and slaughter the goat"
"No, I buy it from the market....."
Hahaha!!!
Such an amazing day and we were so lucky to be invited to spend a Sunday with them. Sundays in Cyprus are days for family and they wanted to show us how they spend their days, just brilliant!
