Sunflower
Ted and I planted these sunflowers from seed earlier in the Summer. Batch number 1 was completely destroyed by slugs, so batch 2 was lovingly tended and protected, and I now have 14 stunning blooms. A couple are about 7 feet high, but this row at the front of our house are a little under 6 feet tall.
After the torrential rain this morning the clouds have cleared and we are left with a sunny but windy afternoon. There's a 'Supercars' event at Wilton House today and at midday the convoy of Supercars came through our village. We went up to watch, but the noise was all a bit overwhelming for poor Ted who burst into tears after a minute or so and needed much cuddling to calm down. He's having a nap now, while I attempt to save the sunflowers from the wind, tying their stems to trees and fences, hoping to keep them upright. I was struck by the lovely contrast of vivid yellow petals and bright blue sky, so this hasty phone snap was cropped to show this to its best effect.
