NYC

More!

This, our only full day in New York began with our first visit to the Louis Armstrong House in Corona, Queens. Satchmo lived in a humble blue collar neighborhood from the mid 1940s until his death in 1971. He wasn't the only jazz musician to live in the area. Dizzy Gillespie owned an apartment house just around the corner and lived there for 10 years before moving to New Jersey. Louis, Diz, and others spent lots of time (when they were home) jamming and playing pool in Louis's basement. Great tour and well worth the trip to Queens.

After the tour we took the subway back into Manhattan to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see an exhibit of the great street photographer, Gary Winogrand., one of my favorites. This is an exhibit not to be missed for anyone lucky enough to be in New York sometime between now and the end of September.

We had dinner with family and then saw the broadway show If/Then with Idina Menzel.
