The Samba Sisters drummed at Leadhills Gala today. Leadhills is the highest village in Scotland, at an altitude of 1450ft. It also has the oldest subscription library, the Leadhills Miners Library, founded in 1741. There is a mining museum and a narrow Guage railway. The population of Leadhills is around 300.
The Gala took place on the football field, next to a small golf course, all surrounded by rolling hills covered with purple heather. Beautiful.
As well as the Samba Sisters, there were other attractions to be enjoyed, including the Leadhills Silver Band and Bob Bonkers (magician and children's entertainer). My favourite were the Imps, a motorcycle display team from East London with members aged from 5-16. They put on a great show. Here are three of them chatting while they wait to perform.
