Hard day at work

You turn up to court, never knowing what cases will be listed. Some days you're cancelled before you even leave home, others are particularly light - often with lots of motoring matters and then other days are like today. Emotionally hard. Besides our usual mix of cases - we had an unusually high number of assaults - including domestic violence and sexual assault. We sentenced on one and the others have been adjourned. Some to the Crown Court and some to be heard in our court at a later date. For these we heard brief facts, not enough to prejudge, but enough to establish whether our sentencing powers would be sufficient, and to establish whether Special Measures need to be involved in hearing these trials. And enough to have some of these matters preying on my mind this evening.
