Paradise shelduck feeding
or part of one! We had a speaker at Nature Photography Club who talked about not putting all the bird in the image, not cropping images too close (this one isn't cropped it just was close, but it can be tempting to crop right in), and putting the bird into its surroundings in a way that shows the habitat, and the bird in its habitat. So it was something to think about and I've tried a few like that, and I can see that sometimes they have more impact than just a closeup bird though of course that has a place too.
It's often hard to get any feather detail in these ducks as they can just look very dark or black.
It's the female that's the striking one which is unusual in birds.
