Diaspora Tapestry

We don't always pay much attention to the Fringe but today booked tickets for a few shows (saw Councillor Lesley Hinds collecting hers) then headed off (by tram!!!) to St Mary's Cathedral hoping for a lunchtime concert, which turned out to be a cello solo by Momoko Sakai.

On display in the cathedral is the new Scottish Diaspora tapestry, which depicts Scottish influence displayed by geographical area. In the Great Britain section is this representation of steam engine construction in Doncaster, depicting Cock o' the North and Flying Scotman. We pedantic Flums are not certain that Cock o' the North, made in 1934, should have the A4 streamlined adaptation (its front end), but we'll let that pass...There are too many panels for our short visit, so a further trip is planned.

After a lunch in town we bussed across town to attend Edinburgh Renaissance Band's Viol Rackett Show at St Cecilia's Hall, a most enjoyable programme of music with all manner of renaissance instruments (including the viol and the rackett) with vocals and dance.

I have to say that a bit of effort, a bus pass and an umbrella make life more interesting.
