Thoughtful Thursday
I got some great news this morning when I went for my check up at the hospital. My foot has healed sufficiently so that I can walk without the plaster shoe - provided it doesn´t give me any pain. I need to take it easy but am no longer confined to the house.
I was looking forward to taking an outside blip so nipped out while dinner was cooking but there was not a lot happening in the neighbouring gardens. I liked the look of these yellow flowers, a bit like a mini sunflower. Feeling a bit thoughtful I Googled "black and yellow flowers". There it was: Rudbeckia fulgida, or Black-eyed Susan, originally native to Winsconsin and indeed related to the sunflower. This variety, Goldsturm (goldstorm) was discovered in Czechoslovakia in 1930´s.
The intricate arrangement in the seed head made me thoughtful - I seem to remember it is somebody´s number and begins with "F". The same arrangement one sees in pinecones. Back to Google, type in "f number", but only comes up with photography related definitions. Type in "f number pinecone" and clever Google comes up with Fibonacci numbers. That´s it! A fascinating sequence of numbers which, along with the Golden Mean, or Phi, are related to spiral growth in nature. Too complicated and boring for me to explain (or understand) so hereand hereare some links.
