Maggie’s
Tonight I went and took this Blip that most Aberdonian's know of and drive past at sometime of the weeks or months.
Maggie’s Building located is in the grounds of ARI (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary) on Westburn Road.
The pebble-shaped building, offers warmth and a feeling of safety and protection.
Both Snøhetta designed the building and landscape, and the overarching plan was to create a design that was both welcoming and inspirational. People have said they feel safe when they walk into the Centre and, despite the height of the ceiling the architects have created a space that feels calming and peaceful. Perfect for the delivery of our programme of support.
Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends, following the ideas about cancer care originally laid out by Maggie Keswick Jencks.
Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, Maggie’s Centres are places with professional staff on hand to offer the support people need.
