A Divine Convenience
No - it's not another dry stone wall blip but, whilst exploring this churchyard at St.John the Divine, Holme in Cliviger, Nr Burnley, I noticed these 'doorways' in the perimeter wall.
On further investigation I find they were in fact toilets (from long ago). The right hand one was the Gents - accessible and still useable (thanks to a natural flow of water along a stone trough within). The right hand one housed a primitive 'Thunder Tub" (which would have necessitated frequent emptying) and has been blocked up by a wheelie bin chained to the wall to prevent any usage :-)
I can't think of many/any churchyard with such outdoor facilities - church going was a serious job back in those days :-)
