Kingston
-on-Spey, where the Spey reaches the coast and the dolphins come in to catch the salmon and the ospreys feed. This shingle beach protects the village from the sea. All looks very benign on a glorious day like today but it was seriously breached two years ago, the lagoon was flooded and the villagers extremely worried. Two hundred years ago there was a shipbuilding industry here, using the timber from Rothiemurchas, which was floated down the river, taking a week to arrive. Great book about it was written by a lovely man, Jim Skelton, 'Speybuilt, the story of a forgotten industry.
