Compulsion

The Wednesday Walking Group hired a charabanc and went to Weston-super-Mare today. I strolled along the pier and was fascinated by the allure that the various amusement machines have for people, particularly these ones, of which there are very many, where you drop a coin in and it oh-so-nearly pushes other coins over the edge and into your eager grasping hand. People stand there with plastic pots of coins and feed them in as if in a trance. Are they having fun?
