Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

My Heart Belongs . . .

Just by chance I happened to see this book in the reference section of the public library a week ago. We asked the librarian if there was a copy in general circulation, and there was not.

I found one copy of the book on Amazon, but before I ordered it I wanted to spend some moments thumbing through the one copy the library did have. The next time we were in the library, I didn't see the book and I had work to do, so I didn't ask the librarian about it until we were walking out. She had it right there on her desk.

Several days later on Friday, we were back in the library and again no book, so I immediately asked about it. The book had been shelved in the wrong location, so she found it for me. I spent the next hour reading various small chapters. I knew I wanted to own the book. The librarian told us the author was deceased, but his wife and daughter were still active in the community and suggested we stop at their realty office to inquire about the book.

So this afternoon that is exactly what we did and we happened to arrive in the parking lot of the realty office just as the deceased author's wife arrived. Mr. Fun introduced himself and then went inside with her. This photo is the evidence of what our visit produced -- a signed copy! Wow!

The author passed away in December of 2012 just before he turned 92. The book was $10 and Mr. Fun gave Mrs. Lyon $20 when she told him the proceeds go to the Cayucos Educational System.

When the author was a youngster, his grandmother owned a house here on the beach and he spent every summer growing up here. He has written interesting stories. We are thrilled to own this book.
