MLS All-Star Game

Apparently, what I can glean from various sources, is that this a VBD for Portland, Oregon. Otherwise known as a Very Big Deal. Somehow or another, Portland was chosen to host the game this year. Many people locally are deliriously happy about this.

People from other countries call this Football, but so as not to confuse it with the real Football, we call it Soccer. That is why we call it MLS - Major League Soccer.

I have deduced that since this is a VBD, this game is being shown on National TV (where I got this image from), and I believe carried Internationally also, since Soccer (or Football) fans cover the globe. These are the officials and the team captains posing for the cameras. It is the US All Star Team playing a German team from Munich.

I believe that this involves a lot of running, with the goal being to, well, make a goal ...Once that happens there is a lot of cheering, somebody yells GOALLLLLLLLLL, and the fans (short for fanatics - which I believe is true, by the way) do a sing song of weird chants and it is the only sport where people wear scarves around their necks, even in 80 degree weather. Alcohol may be consumed.

Seriously......really, this is a VBD and Portland has become quite a Soccer town and embraced all the hoopla that goes with being a Soccer fan.
