Elsie

We had known Elsie for all the years we have been in the village, and now she is gone.
She and her husband lived next door to us, and were very good and kind neighbours.
Every so often, we would share a supper in each other's houses and play a few games of scrabble afterwards. Elsie often won, but they were both good at it!
They enjoyed their retirement, travelling, eating out, walking and visiting family, but after her husband died quite suddenly, Elsie was never really happy and missed him terribly. She managed her life by keeping to a routine, but was always pleased to see us and sometimes took us out to Sunday lunch.
We said our farewells at church this afternoon, and after the service joined her family for tea at her house. Despite being full of people, the house felt empty.
