A day at the seaside

Today has been pretty much a perfect day. We went to Weston super Mare with the Wednesday walkers for our summer outing. Weston is sometimes rudely known as Weston super Mud because the tide goes out so far. I remember Alan Bennett quoting his mother, fumbling for the right word, as saying there was "an awful lot of .... about"! But not today. The sea came in, people paddled, a few even swam, kids made sandcastles and little ones rode on donkeys, people looked at worm casts and hunted in pools for crabs and far down the beach some were windsurfing.

We ate fish and chips and lifted our faces to the sun on the promenade.

This evening, back home in Abergavenny, we went to an open air performance of "Pirates of Penanze" which was huge fun and completely unstuffy.
