Ashmeadow Woodlands, Arnside
Looks inviting? So it is. This is one of the four entrances to Ashmeadow Woodlands in Arnside.
The woods are in the heart of the village just a little back from the estuary. They are a great delight to visitors and especially to villagers. I walk through them three or four times every week. They have an old orchard and a walled garden containing allotments. If you search you can find Toothwort and a selection of Fungi.
The woods were left to the village by John Barnes who ran Earnseat school in Ashmeadow house and two other Edwardian Houses on the promenade. They are now managed by a Trust in which both my wife and I are involved. It is a very satisfying way of volunteering.
Next time you are in Arnside don't forget to explore our woodland.
