Last Collection

Crocus caspius seed pods, usually the last I collect since they have the unique habit of keeping the ripe seed just below the soil surface. Often I do not find the seed until I begin re-potting the collection.

This crocus comes from Iran, growing in the foothills of mountains around the Caspian Sea. Almost all the plants in cultivation originate from collections made by Paul Furse in the 1960's. It has survived this long through it's generous seed production :-)
