Cause n Effect
Cause and Effect
For every action, there's an opposite and equal reaction. That's what Sir Isaac would have us believe. If only it was so simple for humans. The energy balance for maintaining body mass is flawed and some people's actions have a disproportionate effect on the rest of us.
I watched a lecture on the obesity epidemic a while back. " Stand at the bottom of an escalator" the presenter recommended "and compare how many people use them and the parallel stairs". Typically, it's around a 9:1 ratio. As I sat on the train, I noticed (subjectively) that around 60% of people surrounding me were noticeably overweight or obese. A kid sat drinking a can of Monster, a disgusting sugary, taurine and caffeine infested drink. Many people sat, tapping on smartphones. Wow.....I saw a social interaction. A man scowled when he had to move a millimetre to let a women out her seat.
It was a relief to get off the train, albeit a struggle as a portly person was standing in front of the door-button, tapping a tablet, wearing headphones and not wishing to engage with the world (really!). I enjoyed my walk from the train station to nearly work as I had a new Electronic Groove podcast to accompany me. Then, I looked at the new Man City training ground as I passed, which looks as though it's nearly finished. Gah....funded by a greedy Sheikh with a big ego. I was feeling down on the world and some people in it.
Then I thought of my "Stone of Life" which has a quote from the Dalai Llama on it...."if you think you're too small to make a difference, try sleeping in a room with a mosquito". I decided that my day and the day of those around me would be better if I cheered up.
After work I was feeling so sleepy, probably an artefact from yesterday's adventure and a high pollen count. One thing for it.....a coffee at North Tea. Tom made a great Kenyan on V60.....think blueberries with a milk chocolate mouth-feel. Yummy.
