Three Great Craters
Anyone who studies the moon will recognise Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus and Arzachal. Three craters which stand out close to the terminator close to first quarter. This is my first attempt at stacking a CCD image taken hurriedly as the moon was setting. Its clearly possible to see the sun catching the sides of the crater walls and see shadows cast across both the crater floor and what appear to be pinnacles standing in the centre of the later pair. This is also one of my favourite moon sites to study through a telescope as I imagine what earth must look like if you were standing on the edge of one of the craters with the sun close to the horizon. Don't think I'll ever get there but its nice to think about.
