An unusual orange petalled sunflower
The wind got up and the weather changed as we prepared to leave Polzeath. We had a wonderful week by the sea for which we are so grateful to HerbSusan. You are a star! But our holiday wasn't quite over as we were going to South Devon for a few days and nights.
Our first night was to be at some friends house not far from the sea at Yealsmpton just a few miles east of Plymouth. To get there we needed to cross the renowned Tamar Bridge which straddles the river Tamar at a high level right beside the Brunel suspension bridge which carries the Great Western railway westwards on into Cornwall. We stopped close to the toll booths so we could get a panoramic view of the bridge and the wide tidal estuary but the grey clouds which were carrying rain dulled the light and there was nothing really memorable to photograph.
So on we went to John and Prue's home where we were greeted by a gin and tonic and a seat out of the wind in their sheltered and extensive vegetable garden. As the light began to go, I took a quick tour of the vegetables and fruit with camera in hand. The most memorable image was of this rather unusually coloured sunflower by the summerhouse, whose orange petals shone in the evening shadowy light.
