Remembering 100 Years Ago

A pastiche of images taken at Coventry's War Memorial Park.  I had intended taking and merging 100 images of memorial plates from the base of random trees, but the youngsters weren't having any of it!  (A few of these photos were taken with a small child on my back!).  There is also a great playground in the middle of the park and 100 years does't mean anything to a 4 year old or 21 month old!

The simple cross left at the War Memorial to "Uncle Arthur Jukes" was very poignant.  There were millions like him.  I only recently realised that my own Irish grandfather was involved.  I found a record of his War Medals on the National Archives.  He was a Captain in the Merchant Navy - I'm led to understand his ship was torpedoed.  I don't know.  He certainly survived.

More photos taken this evening at The War Memorial Park here.

Found some info about (Uncle) Private Arthur Jukes
He died 18th Aug 1916 and is buried in Pozieres British Cemetery.  He served in the 1/6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment.  His number was 5089.
I don't know any more.  I have no connection with him.  I was just struck by the simple memorial from his nephew/niece (presumably pretty old).
