License Plates of Abu Dhabi

One of the frustrations of living here is the constant change in regulations, normally on a whim.

I had to go to re-register Karen's car early this morning, and was met with the backlog from last week's Eid holiday. The car failed due to having wrong licence plates. This website shows the different variations. Before 2006, everyone had different colours to show where in AD you stayed. This was changed to a plate with a non arabic number and a red border. Sometime in the past 3 years they have added the letters 'UAE AD' onto the plate. It was these that were missing. All rectified now (until next year)
