Garden Sky Scrapers

Dear Diary,

I wish these were in my garden but they belong to my friend. Giant hollyhocks! The top of this one was taller than my reach and I'm 5'10"! What fun it is to see flowers that are a bit out of the ordinary, the expected. Photographing these giants was a delight. They made me feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland, a favorite book of mine, where everything is unexpected and out of proportion.

Whatever precautions you take so the photograph will look like this or that, there comes a moment when the photograph surprises you. It is the other's gaze that wins out and decides.

Finally, after several fits and starts, I have water to the old sink in the potting shed! Electricity will have to wait a bit but just being able to wash my hands when I'm done in the garden is quite a treat.
