Swimmers' Log Book

Bromley's Dream Team

So, today was the big day...

Joe and I got up at 6:45am for an early breakfast with the boys, who then set off for the pool to warm-up (while I went back to bed).

Two hours later and Chloe and I surfaced to stuff ourselves with hash browns, baked beans and choc chip muffins before heading to the pool ourselves.

As the 400m freestyle heats plodded on, tension mounted and us supporters got more and more twitchy. Our boys got in as first reserves, placing them 38th after 3 teams chose not to enter. Their aim- not to come last and to beat Potters Bar (arbitrarily chosen by me).

We watched them lining up. Joe looking nervous. Tanglin yawning. Matt looking calm. Felix looking confused.

They swam a brilliant race, coming third in their heat, and achieving a 6sec PB!

So now they're about 31st. Three more heats followed, in each there were slower teams.

Final results - Bromley SC Boys 11-14 years medley relay team - 26th in the UK.

And Potters Bar... 27th!

We couldn't be happier, or more vocal. Those surrounding us thought we'd gone mad. I didn't care. So proud!

Very well done to you all!

Oh, and Joe went under the minute- 59.94s for 100 freestyle.
