Feeling Good

The sun shone out a blue sky in Edinburgh this morning while the women's cycling road race through the centre of Glasgow took place in rain of biblical proportions.

It's unfortunate that in the last 24 hours more rain has fallen in the west than in the whole of last month.
Still, last night, it didn't dampen the spirits of the track athletes who splashed their way round laps and pole vaulters who tried hard not to let their hands slip down their poles as they vaulted over bars seemingly as high as houses.
The whole Glasgow arena was awash, with the raindrops stotting off the ground like bouncy balls, while in Edinburgh the water shook and fountained as men in tiny colourful budgie snugglers went head first from sky high boards in the diving pool - scarcely wetter than Hampden.

As the rain eased a little, Usain Bolt went on the offensive to woo the Glasgow spectators back after his ill timed remarks earlier in the week.
He must have been told of how a Glasgow audience can react if they decide to send you to coventry, but got them onside with his jigging and carrying on to the strains of 'We will walk 500 miles' before producing a blistering finale to the relay race and a lap of selfies with adoring fans.

With the closing ceremony tonight, I think Glasgow has every right to feel good.
