Say hello to Peck Peck - our slightly pet emu!
We caught up with Peck today at the farmhouse next to ours at Margaret River. She is a thirty something year old emu who was incubated by a neighbouring farmer and he raised two female emus. Peck spent about 20 years at our place before shifting next door.
While they are" their own birds" and wander around the farms she adopted the new lady (Anna) at the neighbour's farm and joined up with five free range chooks, a dog and a cat. Apparently they all go for a walk together!
She is still quiet and you can hand feed her even though she wanders at large. The only change is that Anna thought she was male and calls her "Kevin". Peck has learnt to respond to "Kevin" if there is food involved.
