Porsche morph

Porsche is famous as a sports car maker, but the marque is morphing into something else. While a 911 or Boxster may be what first springs to mind when you think of Porsche, the "my other car is a ..." brand now actually sells more hunky 4x4s than sleek sports cars. Its most popular model is a big steroidal 'Chelsea tractor', the Cayenne. This is its smaller brother, the new Macan.

Small is a relative term. The Macan weighs about the same as a Mercedes range-topping S-Class, and it is no budget model, priced from around £43,000.

What's it like to drive? A sports car, albeit quite a tall one. Which is why I'll be sorry to see it depart, come Tuesday, after a very enjoyable week's test drive.
