Burrow Mump

Just back from a great week in Dorset and East Devon.

Both are beautiful counties. We went to new places and did new things which, for me, are the recipe for a good break.

Opting to miss the M5 we drove slowly back through the Somerset Levels via Shapwick Nature Reserve, Westhay, Othery, Cheddar passing this great looking bump on the way.

The Somerset Levels are like a trip into the past. Constrained by the rhynes and limited by the land they seem like a throwback to a different era. Little villages project above the flatness on various bumps and hills. Those unfortunate to be on the Levels themselves are liable to be flooded, as they were this year.

Burrow Mump can be seen from miles around and is an attempt at building a church on a mound. Seemingly never finished through lack of funds it was given to the National Trust as a memorial to those men and women of Somerset who died in the Second World War.

Via Parents in law for a tasty ham and then back home to unpack.

A cup of tea and maybe a shower are in order.
