The Dales High Way

Got up at 4.30am! (I know!) Taxi booked for 5.30am - it didn't turn up, so had to drag heavy luggage onto bus to station. Already missed 2 trains. Managed to get to Leeds. Got connection to Saltaire after charging through masses of commuters - 2 seconds to spare! Out of breath! No time to look at lovely Saltaire :( Abbey Lodge Hotel very kindly gave us a drink.
Set off in 83 degrees plus on the the approximately 20 mile walk to Skipton. Very hot! Walked across Ilkley Moor (we wore hats!) No shade/shelter. Memories of one dapper gent tipping his hat to me (is that brave these days?) and another including us in his sketch. Stopped in Addingham for a pint of lime and lemonade - obvious the Tour de France had been through - bikes painted yellow or filled with flowers everywhere. Can't help feeling parents at Christmas in Yorkshire will struggle to find second hand bikes!
Flopped into refurbed Travelodge at Skipton. Took dog out for her late night wee in my PJs!
