One hundred years

In two days it will be the hundredth anniversary of the declaration of war by Germany to France soon after Jean Jaures' assassination. He had said that him alive there would be no war! A few days after his death war began. Everyone believed it would be a matter of a few weeks at the most... No one expected such a long war! Most men thought they'd be back before Christmas 1914... A lot of them weren't even still alive by then. This picture is the mobilization poster that was put in every village and town across France. Most people at that time had horses and they had the obligation to bring their horses with them to the front. Such butchery and waste of lives both human and animal alike!
