horns of wilmington's cow

Chaffed

Wandering into work this morning, already reasonably pleased at watching the two juvenile Kestrels in Holyrood Park for quarter of an hour at their regular spot, then spotted this wee fella in the middle of the path on Melville Drive.

Couldn't just leave him sitting there, clearly too young to fly, with at least one adult calling from the trees. In the end the lady in the little coffee cabin gave me a loan of her steps so I could vault the railings into the garden behind the Pavilion Cafe and at least pop him into the top of a pot, so off the ground, able to get cover from the plant life, and who knows, possibly out of hide-and-seek range of a cat. I've not got high hopes for his future, but at least from there he could answer the adult calls and they could find him.

Always feel a bit helpless at things like this, but there's little else can be done, nature is nature, and Chaffies aren't struggling. But hopefully their numbers remain one to the good for a little while longer.

Forgot yesterday about a lovely bit of management speak in a document I was looking at before a meeting. Have a go at deciphering this: “Reaching the stretch target requires deep diving though (sic) the 3 savings levers for idea generation”.
