By-catch
A new fish shop in Carmarthen's redeveloped shopping area comes with a modern version of the ancient river fishing craft that has been used for centuries on the Afon Tywi/River Towy.
Traditional coracles were made of hides stretched over a framework of withies. This one is made from different materials but the result is the same: a lightweight, one-person vessel used for netting salmon, light enough to be carried on one person's shoulders to and from the river.
There's a short account with pictures of coracle men in Carmarthen in times gone by here. Last year I blipped some in more lighthearted activity.
