Did our forefathers worship here ?
Stanydale 'temple' in the west mainland of Shetland, built 2000-2500 years BC...another reminder that Shetland may seem remote but that even in neolithic times was home for rugged farmers who produced barley on what seems at times an inhospitable and "treeless" (there are a few trees in fact) landscape.
We spent the day in the western mainland, a wonderfully varied land of inlets and rolling hills and altogether more remote feel to it that even some of north isles we visited earlier in the week.
As we sat down at lunchtime on the rocks beside the small port of Wall at lunchtime an otter popped up, took one look at us and disappeared - still, was lovely to see one.
