Common darter

Why are the 'Common' species so hard to find? Everytime I think I've captured a Common Darter, it turns-out to be a Ruddy. Finally, a disappointing visit to an utterly grotty (not in a wildlife-friendly way) urban pond brought the long-awaited tick on my list.
