Knoxville National Cemetery
The muffled drum's sad roll has beat
The soldier's last tattoo;
No more on Life's parade shall meet
That brave and fallen few.
On fame's eternal camping ground
Their silent tents to spread,
And glory guards, with solemn round
The bivouac of the dead.
- Theodore O'hare, part of the Bivouac of the Dead, written in memory of the Kentucky troops killed in the Mexican War - 1847
I visited the Knoxville National Cemetery today. Being a SCPO in the US Navy, I felt extremely honored and humbled to walk amongst the fallen and to be in the presence of those that have gone before me.
