Don't worry - bee happy.
Well, it was back to earth with a crash today. Had a horrible night's sleep last night, cramp in my leg all night, and bad dreams about work. Isn't it funny how you sleep like a baby when you are on holiday, or on a Friday or Saturday (if like me, you are lucky enough not to work weekends) but then as soon as you go to sleep on the last weekend night - worry dreams!
So today's blip was nearly a picture of my work-place nemesis: the Phone!!!!! More hated even than the PC or the Piles of Paper. The evil lump of black plastic squats like a gigantic bluebottle on the edge of my desk, just waiting for the moment where I take a quick bite of banana, slurp some coffee, or pop a caramel into my gob, and then it pounces!
However, as the Dyson Man was still off today I decided to work through lunch and get home earlier than usual. So when I got out of the car it was still quite sunny, and the bees were still going for it in the lavender. I really swithered about blipping them yesterday, so today I just had to.
I don't know much about bees, or how many different species there are, but there appear to be at least 4 different types on the lavender just now.
There are wee very yellow hairy guys which remind me of little lions, as they have great ruffs of yellow round their heads. Then there are ones which are almost all black, but with big orange hairy bums. There were also the more traditional fat yellow and black striped bumblers, who fly slow and are often found resting on the ground. And then there are proper honey-bees, like my Dad used to keep in hives when I was a kid.
I tried to get a decent photo of them all but it was impossible, as they move so much faster than they appear to. So I think I managed to capture 2 different kinds in this photo. And whatever species they are, these wee guys will be the worker bees, and I should remind myself that without them nothing else would get pollinated, and the foodchain would therefore be considerably shortened.
I'll try hard to remember that tomorrow when the phone is doing my head in again. I am a worker bee. Ommmmmmmm.
