Commonwealth Games
The only thing we got tickets for (apart from lawn bowls, which we gave to my dad) was one session of athletics. Originally, we were just going to take Orla but we decided at the last minute that Conor had to come too. We managed to get the train into Glasgow without too much drama, but when we went to Central the queue was right through the station, out on to Hope St and round the corner on to Argyle Street. We joined the end of it then decided we'd be better walking. So we headed off towards the Clyde and soon met a couple of police officers who recommended getting a taxi. As luck would have it, there was one coming towards us right at that moment. We jumped in and were in our seats by 10.30.
It was great fun, but it all got a bit much for Orla and Conor, as we suspected it would. By 12 they'd had enough, so we left and walked up to the shuttle bus stop. We thought we were in luck, as there was a bus sitting waiting. But it turned out that the driver had been drafted in that morning and didn't know her way around Glasgow. So we had to wait for the bus behind to fill up and set off so she could follow him. Of course, she lost him and pulled over into a bus stop in the Gorbals for about 10 minutes. Eventually she managed to pull out behind another bus and we set off again, but she had to get a passenger to guide her to Buchanan St once we hit the city centre. About an hour after we left Hampden, we finally arrived. Luckily Conor slept through the whole thing.
We met Matthew and his Mum in George Square then went for a look round the Merchant City festival. We had a lovely lunch in Citation then more of a wander before going back to George Square for photos in front of the logo. Then it was time for home, we were all exhausted. But what an absolutely fantastic atmosphere in Glasgow. Can't wait to go back in again at the weekend!
