Low Tide on the Spit

This is our last day on the Homer Spit.

It's early morning here is this view, low tide, and cloudy. The view is from the Homer Spit looking east towards the Kachemak Bay, Grewingk Glacier, Halibut Cove, and the Kenai Mountains.

Later, it cleared up nicely for our ferry trip to Seldovia.

I have read that Seldovia is Russian for Herring, or has some relationship to herring. Soldovia Bay, at one time, was called Herring Bay. Early in it's history herring fishing was the primary industry of Seldovia and the town was the largest on the Kachemak Bay. As the herring was fished out the town dwindled to a much smaller commercial fishing village, and now tourist spot.

We are traveling back to Anchorage and civilization today, oh well.
