Old Joe

I expect this blip to make sense to no one. Maybe it's one you had to be there, and even if you were, you probably wouldn't get it. Anyway, I cleaned out my shop today, and when I do, I always feel a little closer to my dad. I pulled out the tool chest that he built 70+ years ago, just for further connection. If I never use any of these tools, that will be ok…it's just a small museum of what we were, I guess.

While I was working, this Widespread Panic song, "Old Joe", came on, and it reminded me of a conversation I had with Tom today about lightning. Tom's kind of fearful of lightning, and I'm not so much any more. But this song got right to the heart of what we were talking about, and what this chest means to me, and "…no matter where we are, it's just the life that we're livin…hope we live long and lucky…."

Ahh…I am doing a crummy job of explaining it. Here are the lyrics, and here is the song.:

Well, Old Joe, he moves slow
He likes to look at things and paint pictures on his radio
He says they make the songs look better.

One day, Joe met a girl
Sweet breathing thing
Dancin' naked, nudey, in the winter snow
Underneath her dozen sweaters

And someday, somewhere
Some things get hit by lightning
And some things just don't
Hope we live long and lucky

At least one things for sure
Or maybe it isn't.
No matter where we are
It's this life that we're livin' in

At least one things for sure
Or maybe it isn't.
No matter where we are
It's this life that we're livin' in

And someday, somewhere
Some things get hit by lighting
And some things just don't
Hope we live long and lucky
