Reverse-Pedestrianisation

I'm not sure there is such a word as 'reverse-pedestrianisation'. However, that's what's happening to Abington Street, Northampton's, the town's main shopping street.

It was pedestrianised in 1992. Now the powers that be (despite some energetic protest groups) think that trade to town centre shops will increase if cars are allowed back - time will tell, of course.

The work is well underway, though as is often the way with such things, looks an awful mess at this stage. In the foreground of this pic is the base of the Double Helix sculpture - see HERE - which has been moved to accommodate the new road.
