Hook Turn

MonoMonday Challenge: Hosted by gingernan Thank you GN :)
This weeks theme: Signs

Iconic Melbourne Sign:-

I love this sign and the purpose of it, because its unique to Melbourne (at least within Australia - it might be happening elsewhere) and when I knew what this weeks MM challenge was, I knew it was the one for me.

However, getting into the city today proved to be a problem because the day took me in a whole other direction ( I couldn't resist that :) ).
Sooooo….. I've tweaked the challenge this week, just a teeny tiny bit, so that I can still post this "image" of the sign - this is a print I've had for years at home (not hanging up - I had to rummage about in the cupboard under the stairs to find it) and I'm so glad I did !

That being so, I decided to add a little bit of info for those who aren't familiar with Melbourne's little idiosyncracies :))))

Hook turns
At some intersections in Melbourne where trams operate, to turn right you must do a 'hook turn'. These intersections are clearly marked, with a sign hanging overhead or on the side of the road.

A hook turn is a right turn from the left lane. If turning right at an intersection with traffic lights and a ‘Right Turn from Left Only’ hook turn sign, you must make a hook turn so as not to delay trams.
To do a hook turn you must:
approach and enter the intersection from the left lane and indicate that you are turning right
move forward to the far left side of the intersection, keeping clear of the pedestrian crossings
remain stopped until the traffic lights on the road you are turning into have changed to green, then turn right.
