An evening of rugby

An afternoon of volunteering, followed by a rather sardine-like clockwork orange ride to Ibrox for the Rugby 7s, great banter in the carriage with Kenyan and English supporters. Then through security and round almost the entire stadium due to the one way system. I had come straight from volunteering, and didn't have time for food in town, so joined the food queue once I got into the stand, and after looking at the menu decided that I had to have a goats cheese and butternut squash pie just for the experience of eating that at Ibrox, it would have been photographed for the entertainment value. Sadly they had run out, and as the evening went on more and more things ran out, with the only options by half way through being chicken nuggets and microwave chips or hot dogs, so I'm glad at least I was in time for a burger. So with burger in hand I headed up to the very top of the Broomloan stand, only 4 rows from the top, so a nice step workout! Great view of the posts though, and the BBC pundit section, which was right down below us. I did like the way they were roped off to stop them getting in the way!

The rugby was fantastic, and the atmosphere just as good. Scotland does love an underdog, so unless it was Scotland playing, the loudest shouts were for the team which was losing. Uganda particularly caught our hearts, and really egged the crowd on, they were fantastic, and did a great thanks to the supporters at the end of their last game. It was wonderful for me to see both Scotland and South Africa, my home nations, winning. This is Cecil Afrika scoring one of many tries for the Blitzboks against the Cook Islands. They were simply a joy to watch. Kudos to Kenya for their defence in the last match of the night, forcing South Africa out to the edges of the pitch to score, they were like a wall in the centre. Wish I was back tomorrow for the finals!
