The quarter final... lawn bowls

Started the day in London but got an early morning flight back to Glasgow. Lawn Bowls is not a sport I play or follow, but my Mum loves it, and for Christmas ES had bought his Gran 3 tickets for the late afternoon session on 26th July. Today was the day, so we collected Mum and headed for Kelvingrove.
The weather has been glorious here... for quite a long time...but it was too much to expect the sunshine to continue just long enough to let us see the Bowls in decent weather. The rain started - a drizzle at first, then heavier, then very heavy then back to just heavy.
We were there for two hours until Mum eventually admitted she was too cold to stay any longer. She insists she really enjoyed it, but she was a poor looking wee soul as we trundled her wheelchair back to the car. Things hadn't worked out quite as we'd hoped...
I had never watched a game of lawn bowls before, but it wasn't as boring was more interesting than I had expected. We saw Scot Caroline Brown take on Dehli gold winner Natalie Melmore (England) and the Australian men take on the Jersey team (as seen here). All in all, the afternoon was an experience...
On the plus side, the organisation of the event, and the care taken to make the event accessible to people with a disability, was first class. Getting Mum and her chair into the event was very easy and all those on duty had a smile on their face and a cheery word for Mum. well done, Glasgow!
Nice meal out with D and ES later on... poor Mum too tired to think of joining us...not quite the Christmas treat we'd planned for her...
