Yosemite Falls and Ron Kauk
Poor Tom had contact lens issues today but after getting those sorted we visited Lower Yosemite Falls and mirror lake (which was unfortunately dried up).
In the evening we went to a talk by Ron Kauk, a lifelong climber who began and continues to do what he does best in Yosemite. He is best known as a the double for Tom Cruise in the cliff hanger scene in MI 2. He talked about the wonders of Yosemite and what he had learned about the natural world. It was only on leaving the talk that Tom and I thought "he looks a lot like Tom Cruise" that we realised where we had seen his younger face.
The blipfoto is one from yesterday, taken in Mariposa grove, home to the giant sequoia trees. It is of the faithful couple tree, where two trees grew so close together that their trunks fused as one. We also saw the grizzly giant- which has a volume of 969 cubic metres and is between 1900-2400 years old.
