This morning I went to a Green Party election priority policy launch at Piha.

We will Protect our Beaches from Oil Spills, by:

1. Prohibit deep sea oil drilling. [For many many reasons, not least of which that we should be transitioning to sustainable energy sources.]

2. Implement compulsory shipping lanes for coastal shipping. [Personally I'm astonished that this isn't already the case.]

3. Build Maritime New Zealand's oil spill response capability and infrastructure. [Because they barely coped with the Rena spill, which was a fraction compared to what could come from a bust well.]

4. Introduce a stronger legal framework to [make those who cause the spill] pay for the clean up.

After the launch we gathered on the beach for a photo-shoot. I took a quick snap of people finding their places before joining in.
