lone Puriri

A lone Puriri tree survives on a wind swept hill near the west coast. The Puriri is a New Zealand native. It is a very hard wood with the distinctive feature that it often has finger-sized holes in it caused by the caterpillar of the Puriri moth. The land where Puriri trees grow is usually good land which grows good quality pasture when grass is sown.The leaves must taste good also as these trees are often decimated by possums.
