A Salute To The Few, A Lump To The Throat.

At the National Museum of Flight's annual Airshow the highlight for many must have been the spectacular display laid on by the Red Arrows, but for me the highlight was the dignified entrance over East Fortune of the Royal Air Force's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Appearing over the trees with the combined roar of six Roll-Royce Merlin engines, a Supermarine Spitfire and a Hawker Hurricane flanked the familiar silhouette of the Avro Lancaster, the mainstay of Bomber Command during the latter years of the Second World War; an evocative and fitting tribute to the aircrew who served with the RAF during that conflict.
