He's huge!
A busy, busy day today, taking PeeWee to the vets to have her 6 week post op check, (which went very well), and a trip to quick fit to get a new tyre for my car which is due it's MOT on Monday.
I did plan a quick trip out after lunch, after picking Pee Wee up but just before I went a huge storm blew up out of nowhere and it just poured and poured!
So, instead here is a picture of one of my Death's head hawk moths ( Acherontia atropos). With a wingspan of 12 - 13 cm it is huge as you can see on my finger!
Although a few arrive in the UK each year from southern Europe it is not really a British species, I acquired mine as eggs from a breeder.
This one is called Raphael, and he is much more feisty than the second one (Simon) squeaking loudly and rearing up, waving his front legs about if startled !
I think they are truely wonderful, can't wait to see the rest.
